The K-9 Unit is comprised of two specially trained deputies and their canine partner. These teams are highly trained and specialize in either detection of drugs or explosives. They are also trained in tracking and area searches for missing people or suspects and in protecting their handler. Although they endure many dangers that could cause them injury or death, they never hesitate to serve and protect when called upon. In addition to responding to calls in Chilton County, these officers and their partners have responded to calls for assistance through-out Central Alabama. The dogs reside with their handler and his family and they are on call 24/7/365.
Many of the narcotics searches are conducted on highway interdiction stops, at jails/prisons, area schools and major events. The increasing demand for explosives searches occur at businesses, public events and VIP motorcades. Their incredible ability to find items and people produces an invaluable increase in Officer Safety, efficiency and community service.
